As the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares to elect regional executives to steer affairs of the party, tension is mounting in the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship race as an aspirant is accusing some executives of the party of enriching themselves at the expense of the party while it was in government, MyNewsGH.com has learnt.
Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Yammin who is one of those being accused, however disclosed that he donated ten vehicles to the party ahead of the 2016 polls but was never put to use for unknown reasons by the current crop of regional executives of the party.
According to him, after leaving office as Deputy Minister, he lobbied and procured ten vehicles for the party ahead of the 2016 polls but the current regional executives of the party never used the said vehicles to aid the campaign, hence contributing to their massive defeat in the region.
Joseph Yammin who has filed his nomination form to contest the position of regional chairman made the revelation to delegates in Nhyieso Constituency during a campaign tour to secure their votes for the competitive position, followed by MyNewsGh.com.
“Claims making the rounds that when I was Deputy Minister, I did nothing for the party are untrue. Let me set the records straight, I secured ten vehicles for the party and you can check it at the party’s Regional Headquarters”, the aspirant challenged delegates.
However, speaking on Nhyira FM’s ‘Kro Yimu Political’ talk show monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Wednesday, the Regional Chairman of NDC, Mr. Yaw Obimpeh denied any knowledge of receiving any vehicles on behalf of the party as chairman.
“Before God and man, I don’t recollect Joseph Yammin donating vehicles to the party. … Let him come again maybe he did it at my blindside”, the Regional Chairman fumed in a telephone interview with host, Aduanaba Kofi.
