You can’t blame the A-G – Ayikoi Otoo on Chief Justice’s delay in prosecuting galamsey cases

Former Attorney-General Nii Ayikoi Otoo has defended prosecutors in the ongoing debate over delays in prosecuting illegal mining cases, saying the Chief Justice cannot solely blame the Attorney-General's department.

He explained that cases can only proceed when all necessary parties—judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, interpreters, accused, and witnesses—are present.

Otoo’s comments come after Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo and Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame exchanged criticisms over the backlog of over 140 galamsey cases, involving 850 accused individuals, currently unresolved in Ghana's courts.
