General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has descended strongly on the Nana Addo led government over the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer, Samuel Gyamfi.

According to him, no amount of intimidation can break their resolve or distract them from the pursuit of doing what is right and letting Ghanaians know the happenings in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, a clearly livid Asiedu Nketiah vowed to resist any attempt by the state to cow the NDC into submission, saying the opposition party has rather been galvanized into action by the oppressive acts being perpetrated by the current administration.

"What happened yesterday (arrest of Sammy Gyamfi) was needless and sheer show of power that will not break us as a political party . . . we are ready for more arrest and persecution if that is what will relieve Ghanaians from the oppressor’s rule.

" . . It has rather dented the image of President Akufo-Addo who is touted as a freedom fighter and a human rights activist," he fumed.

National Communications Officer of the NDC was picked up by officials of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Monday morning.

The "arrest" occurred minutes after he had participated in a live studio discussion on UTV's "Adekye Nsroma" morning show.

Sammy Gyamfi was whisked away by some plain-clothed security officers in a white unmarked pick-up vehicle with license plate VR 4870 - 12.

Just as the outspoken NDC stalwart was making his way to board his vehicle after the show had ended, the CID officers suddenly surfaced, produced a warrant and in a flash, picked him away.

Some high profile lawyers and personalities of the opposition party thronged to the Headquarters of the CID, following news of the arrest of the party’s National Communications Officer.
