Coronavirus outbreak: Ghanaian player in Italy shares experience

All sporting activities in Italy have been suspended following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus codenamed Covid-19 in the country.

The decision which was announced by their Prime Minister on March 9 has affected all domestic football competitions in the country including the Serie A.

With over 12,000 cases and more than 630 deaths, Italy has become the second most affected country after China where it originated.

The Italian Serie A and the other lower leagues have proved to be homes and launchpads for Ghanaian players since time immemorial.

The current situation in the country has affected some Ghanaians footballers in the country and one of them has been sharing his experience with GhanaWeb.

Ghanaian midfielder Ahmed Awuah is on the books of Parma and has shared his frustrations with the outbreak.

He said that he is forced to train at home due to the situation and also his movement is also restricted.

He is, however, using the opportunity to watch more videos of players he hopes to mould his game after.

He welcomed the decision by the Italian authorities, justifying that footballers are not aliens and must also be protected from the virus which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

He added that he is using the break to improve other aspects of his game and person.

”I'm focused on my aim and that is to become a great footballer so as the league is on lockdown I watch some videos of the best footballers and also read the history of football and lifestyle of some great footballers like Pirlo, Alves, Ronaldo and others. I train at home because we are having some materials for training so I trained every so that I will be informed when the league starts”
