Government must pay attention to ‘lesser’ known sports – Brand Manager

The Brand Manager for Cowbell, Joseph Ashong has stressed the need for government to pay attention to cycling as a sports though it has been mostly considered in previous times, a ‘lesser sport’.

Mr. Ashong, speaking at the Accra Regional Cycling Competition sponsored by Cowbell lauded organization of this year’s competition which he says was ‘smoother’ compared to the previous years.

According to him, cycling has great potential in Ghana and that is why his brand, Promasidor has taken upon itself to sponsor and develop cycling in Ghana.

“We believe cycling has a great potential if the needed attention is given to it by corporate Ghana, I am sure cycling could be the next income generating activity for the youth” he said.

Mr. Ashong also added that cycling, like any other sports is faced with various challenges, prominent among them is the poor state of the road.

According to him, it is bad enough not to have bicycle lanes in Ghana but the deteriorating nature of the road makes training and such competitions difficult to organize.

“ We have bumpy roads, huge pots holes and other road users and we don’t have full control, we had to manage and share the road with other road users and so some of these things hinders the success of the competition but we put in place measures to minimize them” he added.
