I turned down a chance to be GFA President – Moses Foh-Amoaning

Former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Moses Foh-Amoaning has disclosed that he declined an opportunity to become President of the Ghana Football Association after realizing that the setup of the association enhances the potential of corruption.

Moses Foh-Amoaning has called for a restructuring of the various committees of the Ghana Football Association if corruption is to be eradicated from football.

Speaking during a seminar held at Bukom Boxing Arena, Moses Foh-Amoaning revealed that he was presented with an opportunity to head the GFA but he turned down the chance after a careful consideration of the risks associated with being the GFA president.

Foh Amoaning noted that the practice where club officials are appointed and elected to chair key positions at the GFA usually lead to a conflict of interested which enhances the likelihood of corruption.

“I was offered an opportunity to run Ghana football but I told myself what’s in football and what’s in boxing. But I realized that in football the people administering are footballers and club owners so they became judges of their own cases. So I said there’s an inbuilt conflict of interest here. But when I look at boxing, if you are a license C, you don’t sit on the board. If you are a manager, promoter or an agent you can’t be on the board. So that’s the difference between the boxing regulatory body and football. So when I looked at the two I said, I preferred boxing”, Foh-Amoaning said.

Deep-rooted corruption at the GFA was uncovered by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a documentary dubbed Number 12. The airing of the documentary culminated in the resignation of then-President Kwesi Nyantakyi whiles some of the referees and administrators captured in the documentary have been banned by various regulatory bodies.

The Executive Committee of the association has since been replaced with a Normalization Committee that has been mandated by FIFA to steer the affairs of the association until March 31, 2019.
