A Kenyan court has sentenced two individuals to 35 years in prison each for the murder of Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat, who was killed on New Year’s Eve last year.
Kiplagat, an Olympic steeplechaser, was fatally stabbed in Eldoret, a city recognized for its athlete training facilities.
During the sentencing, Justice Reuben Nyakundi condemned the defendants, Peter Ushuru Khalumi and David Ekai Lokere, for their brutal actions against a defenseless victim.
The murder, which has drawn widespread outrage in Kenya, is part of a troubling trend involving the deaths of several prominent athletes in recent years.
