Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Nana Yaw Amponsah is coy on whether Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto will return to the club next season.
But has left the door ajar for the return to the club of former Kotoko player and Black Stars coach James Kwasi Appiah.
According to Nana Yaw Amponsah, the future of Barreto is being evaluated by the club's board and Management and they will make a decision soon.
Reports are rife that Kotoko and Barreto are close to mutually parting ways following a dismal performance by his team last season which was laced with constant complaints, innuendo's and insults towards the club.
The Portuguese publicly slated Kotoko for only being big in name but lacking the needed infrastructure befitting of the club's status.
“I can’t confirm or deny. I don’t want to go into that but if at any point in time Kwesi Appiah wants to come to Kotoko, the doors are opened,” Nana Yaw Amponsah told Starr FM.
“I didn’t hear Mariano Barreto say the team was indisciplined and if at some point there was some indiscipline, that’s why we brought him in. Management and the board are discussing whether the coach should stay or not and we will conclude on that soon”.
“I still think that our team was the best despite all that we’ve been through. We have the biggest fanbase in Ghana. Our fanbase is bigger than even Hearts of Oak,” he concluded.
WAFA coach Prosper Nartey Ogum has been linked with the Asante Kotoko job with reports indicating that talks are far advanced.
