The maiden edition of the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) organized senior?s rugby seven?s league would start at the Athletics Oval of the University of Ghana, Legon on Saturday.
This follows the Greater Accra Rugby Association (GARA) hosting of a similar event for teams in the capital last year as a way of generating more interest in the sport.
Secretary General of the GRA, Daniel Kenaz Mensah said in a release that the league would be played every other month for four months to determine the overall champions.
He added, ?The focus now is to sustain and gradually make better a league system that would grow our player base, feed our national teams and ultimately forge the turning point in Ghana Rugby?.
He announced that the GRA has secured the support of prestigious corporate bodies such as Nurevas Foods Ghana Limited, Clifton Homes and Savanna Springs Mineral Water as sponsors for the competition.
The institutions he said have come on board to help move rugby along the path of success, adding that the GRA is proud of the support they are offering.
Teams are expected to come from the capital and beyond to battle for a good start to this maiden tournament which promises to be intense and fiercely contested.
At the end of the event, deserving teams and individuals would be rewarded for their troubles in helping to shape positively the face of Ghana rugby.
