The National Sports Authority (NSA) has closed the Baba Yara Stadium for maintenance following Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Angola in a 2025 AFCON qualifier, during which the pitch quality was widely criticized.
The stadium will reopen on October 7, 2024, for Ghana’s next international match. Coaches, including Angola's Pedro Gonçalves, highlighted the poor playing surface, while Ghana coach Otto Addo admitted the pitch wasn't ideal but refused to blame it for the loss.
The NSA will also work with Asante Kotoko to find an alternative venue for their upcoming Ghana Premier League games.
