McLaren's Lando Norris secured pole position for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix during a tumultuous qualifying session marked by numerous crashes, while Max Verstappen ended up in 12th place.
Verstappen faces a five-place grid penalty for the race on Sunday, which will see him starting from 17th position, although he could move up if some of the damaged vehicles are unable to participate.
Mercedes' George Russell claimed second place next to Norris, followed by Yuki Tsunoda in third, with Alpine's Esteban Ocon and RB's Liam Lawson rounding out the top five.
