Ghana international John Paintsil made his debut for South African side Santos FC on Friday night as they pipped Roses FC 1-0 away in Johannesburg.
The former West Ham man was given the nod by coach David Notoana after the Ghanaian obtained his long-awaited work permit.
The experienced defender put up an impressive performance to last the entire duration of the match.
Paintsil’s return to competitive action will serve as a boost to the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 World Cup as the country will need all of its best players for the Mundial.
The ex-Leicester City defender has been one of the long standing members of the Black Stars with two participations in the Fifa World Cup and has vowed to return to international football.
