Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has African ancestry revealed to him before game

Real Madrid and Brazil star Vinicius Junior discovered his Cameroonian ancestry before Brazil's match against Uruguay as part of the ‘Golden Roots’ campaign, which celebrates black Brazilian identity.

A DNA test revealed his roots trace back to the Tikar tribe in Northwestern Cameroon, surprising both Vinicius and his father.

Expressing pride, Vinicius acknowledged the importance of knowing one’s heritage, stating he was "very happy" with the revelation.

His father echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how many Brazilians are unaware of their ancestry. Vinicius is known for his strong stance on identity and anti-racism, reflected in his activism and a tattoo promoting equality.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Real Madrid teammate Fede Valverde scoring for Uruguay and Gerson equalizing for Brazil.
