South African second tier side Santos are in discussions with ex-Ghana defender John Paintsil over extending his stay with the side but could yet lose him to a top-flight side in the PSL.
The 33-year-old signed a one-year contract with The People’s Team last season, bringing his vast experience of European and international football to the young squad.
Santos have made it clear they would like to keep him at the club, but say no deal has been done yet.
“We are still talking to him and hopefully we can come to an agreement, but we will have to see what happens,” Santos CEO Edries Burton told supersport.com.
Polokwane City had made a play to sign the veteran of 88 international caps for the Black Stars before he joined Santos last year.
But bulked at his wage demands and he moved to Cape Town instead.
