South Africa exceeds 59,000 coronavirus deaths

South Africa has registered 297 deaths from Coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 59,000 and 92, since the country detected the first case of the disease, in March 2020.

According to the Health Department's statistical map, the third wave of the pandemic in the country made June 22, 2021 (Tuesday) the deadliest day since the end of last year.

The data highlight 11,000 and 93 new infections, totalling 1,843,000 and 572 confirmed cases. The positivity rate is 23.7%.

The recoveries totalled one million 665,000 and 540 people, equivalent to a rate of 90.3%, according to statistics from COVID-19.

The cumulative of tests performed is 12 million 633 thousand and 235, after 46 thousand and 893 samples have been processed in the last 24 hours.

However, 575 people infected with Covid-19 were admitted to hospital units, increasing to 10 thousand 114 the number of citizens receiving hospital treatment.

Immunization through Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines has reached a total of 229 million and 242 people.
