Former President Jerry John Rawlings has congratulated Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe on his knock-out of American rival Jessie Magdaleno to win the WBO World Super Bantamweight Title in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

Dogboe, 23, by the TKO, has become Ghana’s youngest ever boxing world champion.

Ike Quartey achieved same feat at 25.

Dogboe, recovered from a downing – the first time ever – by Magdaleno in the early stages of the bout until he downed Magdaleno in the fifth and 10th rounds, eventually burying him in the 11th round to end the match.

In a tweet, Mr Rawlings said: “Congrats champion Isaac Dogboe. Hard work and perseverance leads to success. You've made Ghana proud. You have to sustain that hunger in order to emulate the greatest, Azumah Nelson! #dogboeworldchampion
