The 54-year-old coach was let go after last weekend's 2-1 loss to West Ham in the Premier League, with United naming Sporting's Ruben Amorim as his permanent replacement.
Ten Hag, who secured two trophies during his two seasons at United, expressed his gratitude to the fans in a statement from his representatives, SEG.
