The shortlist featured prominent players such as Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, DR Congo’s Chancel Mbemba, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, all celebrated for their exceptional performances over the past year. Agyemang-Badu expressed his disappointment regarding Kudus's omission but acknowledged the high level of competition. He remains hopeful about Kudus's future, stating, “Kudus is still young and has many chances to be recognized as Africa’s best. He just needs to remain focused, keep learning, and continue to develop. His opportunity will come—it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
