The referees manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Alexander Kotey, has indicated that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system is not expected to be implemented at all venues of the Ghana Premier League. He clarified that VAR will only be utilized at locations where matches are televised.

This two-day session, referred to as the VAR kick-off meeting, is essential for FIFA's Implementation Assessment Approval Program, which is a prerequisite for any member association looking to adopt VAR.
Kotey, along with the GFA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, represented the GFA at this meeting. He stated, “We agree that we can’t use VAR at all the league venues. It will be used for league matches that are broadcast live on television,” during an interview with Asempa FM.
The announcement has sparked skepticism among many Ghanaians, who are actively discussing on social media whether VAR is necessary for the local leagues at this time.
