Alex Quartey, the Referees Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and leader of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) initiative, has stated that the introduction of VAR will significantly improve the integrity of officiating in the Ghana Premier League.

Recently, FIFA convened a significant meeting with GFA officials and other stakeholders to discuss the rollout of VAR in Ghana's domestic leagues.
This two-day session, which included FIFA's complete VAR project team, represented the initial phase of FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program (IAAP), an essential step for any Member Association aiming to implement VAR.
In an interview with Citi Sports after the meeting, Quartey shared his thoughts on the discussions with VAR representatives.
He emphasized that one of the primary advantages of VAR would be to enhance the league's credibility.
He cited the success of the recent AFCON 2024 tournament, attributing part of its success to the use of VAR. Quartey concluded that the implementation of VAR would significantly elevate the credibility of the game in Ghana.
