The 61st edition of the Asantehene Open Golf Championship which kicked off on Thursday May 31 to June 3, 2018 has a prize of GHC50,000 for its champions.
The Royal Golf course in Kumasi is the venue for the four-day championship during which professionals will play for four days and amateurs, for two.
In an interview with Power Sports, Mr Tony Kwame Mintah, president of Ghana Professional Golf Association told Nana Prempeh that the organizers of the event have made available GHC50.000.00 as purse for the tournament.
Mr Mintah added that the event have golfers from across the African continent. He revealed that golfers from some West African countries like Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Togo and others are expected in the Ashanti Regional Capital to thrill golf lovers.
According to the PGA the tournament will also serve as a qualifier for amateur scratch golfers who want to switch to pro and use golf as their carrier in life, while selected semi pros undergo a tutelage for six month before ushered into the PGA.
Mr Mintah also hinted the big sunshine tour is coming to Ghana in November and hastened that in the appropriate time it would be launched to the public and the golf fraternity.
