The powerhouses of Cameroon, Tunisia, and Ghana started the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers group stage campaign on a high note, recording home wins on Friday night.

Cameroon scored twice during the first half to defeat Malawi 2-0 in Yaounde. Ghana, on the other hand, needed only a goal ten minutes into the second half to beat Ethiopia in Cape Coast. They now lead Group G.

Tunisia also scored three goals in the second half to beat Equatorial Guinea, and take the top spot in Group B.

Cameroon 2-0 Malawi

Cameroon clinched the top spot in Group D with a convincing win over Malawi at Yaounde's Olembe Stadium.

Vincent Abubakar gave the Indomitable Lions the lead in the tenth minute. He managed to get past Ernest Kakhobwe, goalkeeper.

They dominated the first half and doubled their lead 22 minutes later through Michael Ngadeu–Ngadjui. They led 2-0 at the break.

The second half ended without goals, despite the hosts' attempts to extend their lead. Malawi had opportunities to reduce the deficit, but couldn't scare Cameroonian goalkeeper Devise Epassy and the Cameroonian defense.

Cameroon will next face Cote d'Ivoire, while Malawi will host Mozambique in an all-southern affair.

Ghana 1-0 Ethiopia

Ghana's campaign began in Cape Coast with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia. This was thanks to Mubarak Wakaso's first-half strike.

The Black Stars, led by Jordan and Andre Ayew, dominated the game right from the start. They also had many attacks on Teklemariam Shanko, Ethiopia's goalkeeper, and defense.

Ghana was able to take the lead in the 35th minute when Wakaso shot 20 yards from the goal.

Shanko was wrongly received as the Black Stars went into the break with a goal up.

The second half was full of rare opportunities. The Black Stars maintained their lead and finished on top with 3 points. This is two more than South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Bafana Bafana hosts Ghana on Matchday 2 Top Game, while Ethiopia takes on Zimbabwe in Bahir Dar.
