Angolan journalists want greater female representation in decision-making positions

The new coordinator of the Forum of Women Journalists for Gender Equality (FMJILG), Ermelinda da Costa, this Wednesday, October 13, highlighted the need for greater female representation in management and leadership positions in the public and private media.

Speaking to Angop at the end of the inauguration ceremony of the organsation's new members, elected on the 9th of October, the coordinator of the FMJILG stated that the forum intends to work with public media and private departments, in order to provide greater equity in the sector.

Ermelinda da Costa stated that in addition to the work developed in favor of female journalists, the organisation is committed to the issue of violence against women, where it seeks to make the voice of women in vulnerable situations heard.

“We try to meet these women and make their voices heard in society,” she said.

According to the official, the FMJILG works on several projects, involving women from rural communities, especially those in the mining areas.

In turn, the National Director of Information and Institutional Communication of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), António de Sousa, said that the supervisory body is attentive to the concerns of the class, linked to the increase in the number of women in decision-making bodies.

He highlighted the organisation's contribution to cohesion, unity, and the strengthening of common interests of the entire journalistic class.

Madalena Alexandre, Josina de Carvalho, and Emília Rita were also sworn into the organization's management positions, for projects, administrative and finance areas, and promotion and gender equality, respectively.
