Kenya’s Senate email system crashed following massive public response to a bill proposing a seven-year term for the president, governors, and MPs, along with other constitutional amendments.

Submitted by Senator Samson Cherargei, the bill has sparked widespread anger, with over 200,000 emails flooding the Senate’s system.

Although Cherargei argues longer terms would help leaders deliver on promises, President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has condemned the bill.

Public scrutiny of lawmakers is high, as many struggle with inflation, and recent tax protests turned violent.
