A car bomb exploded outside a popular cafe in Mogadishu, Somalia, killing several people during the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England.

The bomb detonated at Top Coffee cafe at 22:28 local time, killing at least five and injuring 20 others, with the death toll later rising to nine.

The jihadist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility, targeting a site frequented by security and government workers. Witnesses described the chaos and terror as people scrambled for safety.

The explosion destroyed cars and damaged buildings near Villa Somalia, the presidential residence. This attack follows a period of reduced violence amid ongoing security operations against al-Shabab.
