One person has died and dozens were injured in a crush at an election rally for Rwanda's President Paul Kagame ahead of July's general election.

The incident occurred during a rally in Rubavu district, northern Rwanda, where 37 people were injured, four seriously. President Kagame, seeking a fourth term, has led Rwanda since 1994.

His ruling RPF-Inkotanyi party expressed condolences and emphasized safety measures at campaign events. Criticized for political crackdowns, Kagame defends Rwanda's human rights record.

The election, also contested by Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana, excludes Diane Rwigara, citing inadequate documentation despite her claims of being unfairly disqualified.
