Entire anti-corruption board fired for alleged Zambia corruption

Zambia's President Hakinde Hichilema has fired the entire board of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) after they were accused of corruption, which they deny.

This follows the resignation of ACC head Thom Shamakamba and Solicitor-General Marshal Muchende, both accused of taking kickbacks.

The accusations come from whistleblower O’Brien Kaaba, a former ACC board member, who alleged that ACC officials received payments from politicians targeted by probes for amnesty. Kaaba claims corruption within the ACC extends beyond the dismissed board members.

The Zambian presidency stated the board's dissolution was necessary to renew the ACC's mandate, amid speculation about Shamakamba's resignation.
