Nigeria to the world! A new set of Nigerian filmmakers are set to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Academy on Tuesday unveiled 397 potential members including actress and director Funke Akindele-Bello who was invited in the acting category for her record-breaking ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ movie, U.S. based actor Daniel K. Daniel also in the acting category for ‘The Fugitive’ and ‘A Soldier’s Story’, and Blessing Effiom Egbe deservedly in the director’s list for ‘African Messiah’ and ‘Iquo’s Journal.’
If the invitees honor The Academy’s call, they will participate in the Oscars nomination and winners voting process.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed a new breakdown of the new invitees representing 54 countries. 44 percent are women, 37 percent are non-white and 50 percent are non-Americans.
Nigeria’s newest invitees join the swelling list of representatives serving as members of the Academy. Last year, The Academy admitted Ramsey Nouah Jr., Mo Abudu, and U.S based director Andrew Dosummu into the class of 2021.
