Germany may consider using facilities funded by the UK in Rwanda to process asylum seekers, according to Joachim Stamp, the country's migration agreements commissioner.
These facilities were originally built for the UK's scrapped Rwanda deportation plan.
While Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed doubts about processing asylum claims abroad, the idea has been discussed as a potential solution for migrants entering the EU through its eastern borders.
However, there is no plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, and any such process would follow international humanitarian law and be overseen by the UN.
