Diane Rwigara, a critic of Rwandan President Kagame, has been barred from the upcoming presidential election.

Only President Kagame, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, and independent Philippe Mpayimana were approved by the electoral body.

Ms. Rwigara, who leads the People Salvation Movement, was disqualified for not providing required documentation, including proof of a clean criminal record and sufficient nationwide support. Previously barred in 2017, Rwigara accused Kagame of denying her the right to campaign. She was previously imprisoned on charges she claims were politically motivated.

Kagame, seeking a fourth term, won nearly 99% of the vote in 2017.
