A Kenyan court has sentenced two men to 35 years each for the murder of Ugandan Olympic athlete Benjamin Kiplagat.
Kiplagat, a prominent steeplechase runner, was stabbed to death on New Year’s Eve in Eldoret, Kenya, a hub for elite athletes.
Justice Reuben Nyakundi found Peter Ushuru Khalumi and David Ekai Lokere guilty of premeditated murder, as CCTV footage showed them following and attacking Kiplagat in his car.
Despite his family’s plea for life sentences, they expressed relief at the verdict, feeling justice had been served. Kiplagat, 34, represented Uganda in three Olympic Games.
