Chief Chukwuemeka Nnaji, the convener of the Dynamic Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO), a support group based in Ghana, has urged Nigerians to take their destinies into their own hands by voting for the Labour Party and its candidates Peter Obi and Yusuf Baba Ahmed-Datti.
According to him, Nigerians will have to wash "Nigeria's politics with a strong detergent called Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti."
He made the call at the launch of the support group held in Accra on Sunday, December 18. In attendance, were stakeholders from the Nigerian community in Ghana, traded union leaders, student leaders, and journalists.
DAPO is the first diaspora support group in Ghana hoping to drive the attention of Nigerians to their candidate. With less than 70 days to the February 25 presidential elections, former Anambra governor, Peter Obi will hope the support he has enjoyed from Nigerians locally and in the diaspora will translate to the requisite votes he needs to become president.
While he might be regarded as the least experienced among the two leading contestants, his controversial track record as governor of Anambra State has been re-echoed by many who believe he is the best candidate to lead Nigeria in 2023.
Below is the full speech by Chief Chukwuemeka Nnaji, the convener of the Dynamic Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO)
We are here because we know what we are doing, taking the decision to follow the Labor Party, Peter Obi and Baba Ahmed is the right decision for every Nigeria at this moment.
While young, my father told me I am a wise boy, and I didn’t understand until I grew up. I realized what my father said was true when I took the three most crucial decisions, taking the religion I choose, that’s being a Christian, marrying the woman I chose as a wife, and thirdly following Peter Obi and Yusuf Ahmed Datti.
This is the first time I’m campaigning or soliciting votes for a particular individual in about 50 years of my life but today I’m asking all of you to vote for Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti under the Labour Party.
When a man is growing, he reasons better, we used to say that politics is a dirty game but at this point, I will say that we all know what to do when something is dirty, we clean or wash it! In the 2023 elections, we will wash Nigeria's politics with a strong detergent called Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti.
I may not have time to tell you all the good things Peter Obi has done but with his eight years as governor of Anambra state, there was a tremendous transformation and that is the kind of transformation we want in Nigeria come 2023.
We are going to have a new Nigeria and Peter Obi says it is possible, a better future is possible for you all, some of you are here not because you want to be here but because of circumstances, you can agree with me that if Nigeria was working well, you wouldn’t have been here. Today we have an opportunity to take our own destiny into our hands. Let’s go back home and fix the problem we have in Nigeria by voting.
The kind of problem Nigeria is facing is not hunger problem but insecurity, our lands are fertile but because of insecurities people cannot go out to farm, but Peter Obi has promised that they will fix it. I am sure they can do it because they have done it before in Anambra state. ObiDatti says they will change Nigeria from consumption to production.
Nigeria has the population to sustain the country, moat of the countries doing well is because of population, Nigeria is the most populous nation on earth hence we don’t have a reason to lack. Peter Obi did so much for Anambra state during his tenure, he built Anambra state teaching hospital, he brought the first …. machine in Anambra state. He reduced employment to 17% in Anambra state and he can do more for Nigeria.
During their campaign over 95 private jets went o a particular city, for what! This is a lot of money, most government workers’ salary is not even paid but these officials are wasting state money, Peter Obi says he is going to reduce it. I want you to trust him, trust a man by his works and the things he does. He shares millions of computers to ensure that Anambra students learn with ease, this is a man of action, and I know he can do better, trust Peter Obi.
When you receive calls from home and they ask you for money, tell them to take their PVCs and vote for Peter Obi, if they don’t vote for Peter Obi they should call those they voted for. I have taken that decision and I tell my people if you don’t vote for Peter Obi don’t call me for money. In conclusion, I want us to understand that this is our destiny and we cannot joke with it, it is a serious business and we must take it seriously.
