A man who attacked Comoros President Azali Assoumani with a knife during a funeral has been found dead in his prison cell.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, left the president with a hand injury.
The attacker, identified as 24-year-old soldier Ahmed Abdou, was arrested and isolated in a cell.
Authorities discovered his lifeless body the following morning, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
President Azali received stitches for his injury and is reported to be in good health.
The motive for the attack remains unclear.
