Miss South Africa contestant pulls out amid nationality row

Chidimma Adetshina, a Miss South Africa contestant, has withdrawn from the competition amid a nationality controversy.

The 23-year-old law student, who identifies as South African with Nigerian and Mozambican heritage, faced scrutiny over her citizenship after it was alleged that her mother may have committed identity theft to gain South African nationality.

A preliminary investigation by the Home Affairs department found that while Adetshina could not have been involved due to her young age at the time, further investigations are ongoing.

Adetshina cited her and her family's safety as reasons for her withdrawal, thanking supporters and wishing the remaining contestants well.
