Nigeria's Police Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi has warned journalists against defamation, stating that the police can use laws beyond the Cyber Crime Act to prosecute them.
He denied claims that the police are targeting journalists, saying they are not immune to the law.
Adejobi emphasized that journalists must fact-check their reports and honor police invitations to avoid legal action.
He also distinguished between mainstream media and bloggers, suggesting that the latter often break the law.
The police have arrested and detained several journalists in recent times, sparking concerns about press freedom.
