Anti-government protests in Kenya have escalated, demanding President William Ruto's resignation despite his concessions, including withdrawing an unpopular tax bill.

One man was shot dead in a confrontation with security forces in Nairobi, where shops closed as police dispersed demonstrators with tear gas.

The protests, initially about the tax bill, now address broader issues like bad governance, corruption, and police accountability. President Ruto has called for dialogue, dismissed his cabinet, and saw the police chief resign.

Protests, coordinated online, have spread across nearly half of Kenya’s counties, resulting in at least 50 deaths and over 400 injuries.
