Russia has reportedly deployed up to 200 troops to Equatorial Guinea, tasked with protecting President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the world’s longest-serving president, and his family.
The troops are allegedly training elite guards in the capital Malabo and the city of Bata.

Equatorial Guinea, which has faced criticism over human rights, has recently sought defense and resource exploration agreements with Russia, which some analysts warn could undermine U.S. geopolitical interests in the region.
