Paul Kagame has been sworn in for a fourth term as Rwanda's president after securing 99% of the vote in the July 15 election.

While Kagame is praised for maintaining peace and stability since the 1994 genocide, critics accuse him of leading a repressive regime with limited political freedoms.

His electoral victories have consistently exceeded 93%, which rights groups argue reflects a lack of democracy in Rwanda.

The inauguration ceremony in Kigali's Amahoro National Stadium was attended by several African leaders, though Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi was notably absent amid tensions over Rwanda's involvement in DR Congo.
