South Africa coach impressed with Bafana's result despite unimpressive display in Zimbabwe

Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana's coach, has said that he is happy with the performance of his side despite their goalless draw against Zimbabwe in their opening 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Belgian tactician's side are in the same group with the Black Stars in Group G but the South African players have come under attack for their unimpressive showing in the match.

Broos, who was watching from the sidelines for the first time since he was appointed as South Africa's national coach, saw his team draw 0-0 in Harare.

Broos expressed his satisfaction with the point after a match without many highlights.

“I’m happy with the draw today,” Broos told reporters after the match.

“Both teams had the chances to win. Every team had a few chances but not more than that."

“I’m happy with the point but on the other side we could’ve done something better today.”

Broos added that, while he was happy with the point, he wanted to pounce on the issues Zimbabwe had with several players missing the match.

“Before the game I’d like to win the game because it was an opportunity for us, seeing the problems that Zimbabwe have had.

“But you saw the game, Zimbabwe could’ve scored, we could’ve scored, so I think the draw is a fair result.”

Bafana will take on the Black Stars in the next qualifier on Monday, September 6, 2021.
