The ex-gangster who has become South Africa's sports minister

Gayton McKenzie, a former gangster and bank robber turned politician, has been appointed South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), McKenzie overcame adversity to achieve success, including prison time, becoming a motivational speaker, and launching businesses. His appointment follows the ANC's loss of its parliamentary majority.

McKenzie, known for his bravado and anti-immigrant stance, promises to make car spinning a recognized sport to help keep youth away from crime.

However, his appointment is controversial due to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his mayoral tenure.
