Police say the motive for the killings is still unclear Police say the motive for the killings is still unclear

South African police have arrested three individuals linked to the massacre of 18 family members in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape, last week.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed the arrests during a memorial service for the victims, who included 15 women and three men, aged 14 to 64.

The shootings occurred during a family gathering for a traditional ceremony.

Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the killings and expect to announce a fourth suspect soon.

The incident has heightened calls for increased police protection and efforts to combat gender-based violence in a country with one of the highest murder rates globally.
