Tunisian President Kais Saied's supporters celebrated in the capital on Sunday after an exit poll showed him winning the presidential election with 89.2% of the vote against two rivals, one of whom is in prison.

Voter turnout was low at 27.7%, half that of the 2019 runoff.

Critics, including disqualified candidates and rights groups, claim Saied has eroded democratic gains since taking power in 2019, asserting he is fighting a corrupt elite.

Despite rising tourism, Tunisia faces economic challenges, including shortages and power outages. Official results are expected Monday evening.
