Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni warned protesters against staging an anti-corruption march to parliament, calling it "playing with fire."
Young Ugandans, inspired by similar protests in Kenya, organized the march on social media. Museveni accused some organizers of collaborating with foreigners to cause chaos.
The police denied permission for the march, but protest leader Louez Aloikin Opolose insisted on their constitutional right to demonstrate. Earlier this year, the UK and US imposed sanctions on Uganda's parliamentary speaker and two ministers over corruption charges.
In Kenya, protests demanding President Ruto's resignation have led to violence and numerous casualties.
