WHO says it has certified Egypt as malaria free

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially certified Egypt as malaria-free, marking the elimination of the disease that had been present in the country since ancient times.

To earn this status, countries must prove that malaria transmission by Anopheles mosquitoes has been interrupted for at least three consecutive years.

Egypt joins 44 other countries and one territory globally in receiving this certification from the WHO.
