100 unemployed graduates to get on-site jobs at MIAC Job Fair 2018

A third of those participating in this year's Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (MIAC) Job Fair, being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, are sure to get employed after the event.

Speaking at the official launch of this year's event, Senior National Coordinator of the CIM-Program Migration for Development, David Tette disclosed that since the introduction of the initiative more than 4,500 people have benefited in diverse ways.

The aim of the program is to reduce the unemployment situation in the country and in the long run provide opportunities for Ghanaians to reduce the tendency of youth moving away for 'greener pastures' which has adverse effects on the country's development.

In this regard, the initiative aims to complement government's strategies at job creation and reducing unemployment by linking job-seeking youth to employers while equipping them with practical hands-on training on job placement standard practices and enhancing their employability skills.

"The centre has a core mandate to provide advisory and better perspective on the country to migrants who voluntarily return home and also for our teeming youth who are also searching for opportunities. Your Excellency, to date we have been able to provide advisory services to 4, 500 beneficiary and country and this comprises of both the returning migrants and the youth in the country in the forms of career information dates and job placement training," David Tette asserted.



Launching the 2018 MIAC Job Fair, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffuor Awuah lauded the German government and its agencies for the partnership especially as the opportunity is open for Ghanaians beyond the borders of Ghana and Germany.

The Minister urged youth to be committed to whatever job they find themselves irrespective of how small the organisation may be and work assiduously to ensure the growth of the company.

In line with ending the incidence of migration from the country especially the youth who engage in it illegally, he cautioned that Ghanaians should stay here and work to ensure prosperity.

"The millennials, once again, every employer will want to as much as possible maintain each of his or her staff. They invest in your training and will want to have the best out of your efforts. I cannot begrudge you for exploring to get better opportunities out there but then let us also be committed in building the organisations where we may find ourselves. So that even if today things are not working that well, there is that hope that one day if we are able to apply our energies very well, that organisation will also grow to be like the big one that you envisage to work in," he explained.



Ignatius Baffuor Awuah continued, "Let us stay in our country, build our country and take advantage of opportunities here."

The Ghana-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration is part of the Global Programme Migration for Development which is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and implemented by GIZ in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations with the objective to advice on employment and educational perspectives for the Ghanaian youth, returnees and intending migrants alike.

The two-day event which began with the launch and opening addresses today 3rd September will end on 4th September 2018 with the interviewing of participants by the 30 registered companies and immediate on-site place into available 100 vacancies.



The current programme ensured that participants were groomed for two weeks on basic concepts in the corporate world, branding and self presentation among others.
