In September 2024, African airlines saw an 11.9% rise in passenger demand year-on-year, reaching a load factor of 76%, indicating efficient seat use and strong recovery in the sector.
Capacity increased by 6.6%, reflecting Africa’s competitiveness in global aviation, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Globally, passenger demand grew by 7.1%, with Asia-Pacific and European airlines leading the recovery.
IATA's Director General Willie Walsh highlighted the economic benefits of this growth but warned of potential infrastructure challenges that could hinder continued gains without proper investment in airports and air traffic management.
