Water consumers in the Ashanti North Region owe the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) over GHC40 million, a debt that is hindering the company's ability to maintain an uninterrupted water supply.

The GWCL is launching a revenue mobilization campaign to recover these arrears, as the total national debt exceeds GHC800 million.

The non-payment of bills affects operations, as the company relies on customer payments to cover essential costs such as purchasing water treatment chemicals, maintaining infrastructure, and paying staff salaries.

The GWCL is conducting house-to-house collections and intends to disconnect defaulters. Additionally, a project to improve water infrastructure in Greater Kumasi, including new pipelines and subsidized connection fees for 6,000 households, has been completed.
