Ghana is spearheading efforts to combat the destructive fall armyworm pest, as African nations convene in Accra to assess progress through the Korea-Africa Food and Agriculture Co-operation Initiative (KAFACI).
Since the pest’s initial devastation of maize crops in 2016-2017, Ghana's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with KAFACI’s support, has developed sustainable pest management solutions.
At the 2024 monitoring meeting, CSIR's Director-General, Prof. Paul Bosu, highlighted the continent-wide impact on food security and praised collaborative advancements in pest management and crop resilience.
The KAFACI Young Scientist Award aims to foster future agricultural researchers. Chief Director Dr. Patrick Numo stressed the need for eco-friendly pest control and resilience against climate-related agricultural challenges.
