Dry market day at Kasoa as traders record low sales on Day 5 of lockdown

Some traders in Kasoa market displayed their wares but were left disappointed as only a handful of customers showed up.

The market women who spoke with www.ghanaweb.com seemed not to understand why consumers did not show up despite the government’s directive that foodstuff can be bought during the partial lockdown exercise.

“You asked us to come and sell our wares but customers are being asked to go back home. How are we able to make sales? It’s good you are protecting us but please allow them to come and buy something for us,” a trader said.

Others also complained about how they are unable to feed their families as a result of low sales.

“We are unable to feed families and it is a big worry to us. Since Monday we have recorded low sales yet, we need to feed our kids,” said another.

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announcing the partial lockdown stated that some individuals and institutions with essential services maintain operations during the exercise.

Among these were Members of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary. Production, distribution, and marketing of foods, beverages, pharmaceuticals, medicine, paper and plastic packages, etc.

Ghana so far has recorded 9 new cases of Coronavirus, shooting the number from 195 to 204.
