The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has suffered significant revenue losses of over GH¢893 million between July and August 2024 due to the ongoing upgrade of its prepaid metering system.

ECG's Director of Communications, William Boateng, attributed the shortfall to customers not paying for the actual power consumed, ongoing meter replacements, and outstanding debts.

The replacement of faulty or outdated meters, mandated by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), aims to improve ECG's revenue in the long term.

Boateng reassured customers that any credit balances on old meters would be refunded after reconciliations, urging patience during the process.
